The little valeuse (hanging valley) of Mesnil Val Plage, in the
village of Criel sur Mer,
at the mouth of the River Yères, saw the building of a number of
elegant villas at the start of the twentieth century .
Just up the road from
Le Tréport, with its bustling fishing port, active all the year
round, especially in winter, when the catches of fish and shellfish
are particularly good. At Le Tréport, there is always a lot of activity
at the Casino! Between the Bay of the Somme and the tree-lined hedgerows
of the Normandy countryside, with its chalk cliffs and its funicular
railway. You can have a 'Trou Normand' (a shot of Calvados) in the
middle of your meal with local specialities, which may be accompanied
also by a bowl of cider. History buffs must not miss the opportunity
to visit EU, the town where William the Conqueror was married. This
town is full of historical connections, and is the place where William's
distant descendant, Queen Victoria, sealed the 'Entente Cordiale'
with the French King Louis Philippe. Many sites to visit.
